Resuming talks on May 14, there’s still no sign of an agreement on the horizon. Ted Pappageorge, the secretary-treasurer of the Culinary Union, has openly criticized Virgin Hotels’ “Last, Best and Final Offer” as inadequate. However, JC Hospitality, the parent company of Virgin Hotels, shot back, accusing the union of not negotiating in good faith and presenting a “take it or leave it demand.” The company stressed the importance of focusing on their guests and business, even as the union demanded guaranteed benefits contributions for the first three years of the contract. Virgin Hotels, on the other hand, offered no such increases and proposed fewer specifics for the remaining two years, according to the union.
