Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Las Vegas Restaurant

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the family of Abraham Kenneth Ezra Williams has filed a wrongful death lawsuit following his untimely demise in April 2024. They allege that a fatal shellfish allergy attack occurred at Beauty & Essex, a well-known restaurant situated within The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. According to the claim, Williams, despite informing the staff about his severe allergy before ordering, was served a dish containing shellfish, which triggered a deadly anaphylactic reaction. Both the workers at the restaurant and emergency medical teams have been accused of negligence during the crucial moments of his allergic reaction.

On December 26, Williams’ family officially filed the lawsuit in Clark County District Court, holding several parties accountable, including the restaurant’s staff, The Cosmopolitan, emergency medical responders, and other related groups. The core of their grievance lies in the allegation that trained personnel failed to provide adequate emergency assistance, with the situation being exacerbated by emergency workers from Community Ambulance and the Clark County Fire Department. The lawsuit claims these responders were slow to administer oxygen, improperly inserted a breathing tube, and inadequately monitored Williams’ heart, all of which they argue contributed to his tragic passing at Sunrise Hospital.

Doctors at Sunrise Hospital struggled to stabilize Williams due to extreme swelling that hindered the placement of a standard breathing tube. The medical team had to perform a tracheotomy – a more invasive procedure that involves creating a direct airway through an incision in the throat. Despite being connected to a breathing machine, Williams’ condition deteriorated rapidly, culminating in his death on April 30, four days after eating at the restaurant.

The Williams family’s legal counsel, Christian Morris Trial Attorneys, is pushing for a jury trial and seeking damages exceeding $15,000. This amount aims to cover the family’s loss and serve as punitive damages against those perceived to be responsible. Moreover, they are requesting the court to compel the defendants to cover legal fees and any additional relief deemed appropriate. In response, Community Ambulance expressed sympathy for the grieving family but refrained from commenting on the lawsuit.
