Florida Authorities Raid Illegal Gambling Den, Seize Cash and Drugs

Authorities in Florida have successfully dismantled an illegal gambling den, arresting several individuals in a significant police operation. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) disclosed that they seized numerous gambling machines, illicit drugs, and a substantial sum of cash amounting to thousands of dollars. The operation, dubbed “Operation Express Jackpot,” followed an extensive investigation into illicit activities at the 207 Express Mart on West Church Street in Hastings.

For over six months, officers had been receiving tips about suspicious activities at the venue. This prompted undercover agents to frequent the establishment multiple times. During their visits, the agents purchased drug paraphernalia, engaged in narcotics transactions in the parking lot, and played on unlicensed electronic gambling machines. The gathered evidence led deputies to secure a search warrant, resulting in the raid of the 207 Express Mart. The authorities reported seizing four gambling machines, a significant amount of drug paraphernalia, gambling payout equipment, and approximately $400,000 in cash.

The SJSO, in collaboration with the Special Investigations Unit, K9 Unit, Task Force, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, issued arrest warrants for numerous individuals believed to be involved in the unlawful operation. The joint efforts culminated in multiple apprehensions, including Hui Fang Iris Liu, Reginald Smith, James Patterson, Yvonne Hall, Phillip Myers, and Sherry Williams. These individuals now face a myriad of charges, including drug distribution and possession.

Moreover, the Multi-agency Drug Abatement Response Team inspected the premises and found further violations related to electricity, food storage, and cleanliness. Sheriff Robert Hardwick praised the investigation, highlighting the strong bond between the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and the community. He emphasized the swift and professional response by detectives, which led to the successful crackdown on the illegal business. Sheriff Hardwick’s comments underscore the importance of community vigilance: “This investigation is just one example of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office commitment to provide first-class customer service to our entire community. Please remember, if you see something, say something.” The investigation remains active, and individuals with any information are encouraged to contact the SJSO.
