New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has issued a significant penalty to Betway and Spin operator Super Group over repeated violations of the state’s stringent player protection directives. By failing to add self-excluded players to New Jersey’s official self-exclusion list promptly, Super Group has breached critical regulations designed to safeguard players. This mismanagement allowed individuals who had opted to exclude themselves from gambling activities to continue accessing online gambling websites, a clear violation of New Jersey’s player protection protocols, undermining efforts to promote responsible gambling.
The violations in question spanned from March 2024 to January 2025, as clarified by the DGE. Additional breaches occurred from July 2024 to August 2024 when Super Group failed to adequately process the self-exclusion list, allowing self-excluded players to resume playing or create new gaming accounts.

The violations in question spanned from March 2024 to January 2025, as clarified by the DGE. Additional breaches occurred from July 2024 to August 2024 when Super Group failed to adequately process the self-exclusion list, allowing self-excluded players to resume playing or create new gaming accounts. From June 2025 to July 2025, the company also allowed some players to exceed their deposit limits. As a direct consequence of these lapses, the DGE imposed a civil monetary penalty of $112,188.96 on Super Group and mandated the return of $5,278.73 taken from self-excluded players.
The DGE expressed its dissatisfaction with these offenses, indicating that they reflect lax internal controls that do not comply with New Jersey’s strict gambling regulations. The state has long been a leader in setting standards for player protection, intending to foster a safe and responsible gambling environment. To emphasize the seriousness of these infractions, the DGE warned Super Group that any further violations, regardless of size, might prompt even more stringent actions.
Meanwhile, the spotlight is also on New Jersey councilman Anand Shah, who faces 18 criminal charges linked to his alleged involvement in a multi-million-dollar illegal gambling ring.
